Information, tips,surrounding :
the SEA is dropping, sandy in the western part, a small reef to the east, there ideal for snorkeling
the SUN has also here , particularly at midday, so some at surprises, therefore please don’t forget your sun cream with at least 15 sun protection factor
SUPERMARKETS there are 2, from 08.00 to 21,00 h opened, even Saturday + Sundays .
LOCAL BUSSES the blue-white ones, every half an hour to RETHYMNON town, tickets you buy in small shops near the bus stop.
Then there are the overland busses, green-beige colors, which hold also there,at this side of the motorway direction Chania, at the other direction Heraklion, here one can buy the tickets for the simple travel with the driver, hold change ready.
Move-walk: in 2 km distance is that less visited little monastery of ARSANI a beautiful one, calm monastic yard + an old museum, that the abbott on request gladly unlocks.
Another walk goes straight into the landscape from Alkionis in direction south,through the large olive groves and passing the tiny villages Asteri and Gavalochori.
COLLECTION with ORGANIZED TRIPS from the motorway, toChania, Georgioupolis, Plakias, Samaria staring from this side of the road, to HERAKLION, Phaestos and Eastcerte it goes from the other side.

The green RAVINE of MILI, either by rent a car of taxi,At the entrance of the gorge in 10 min. everybody will be down in the abandoned village out of venezianischer times.

KOURNAS LAKE + GEORGIOUPOLIS with the hotel bus to Rethymnon to the bus station, here the tickets for the cross-country bus direction Chania to GEORGIOUPOLIS walk to 3,5 km Kournas lake, the only fresh water lake on Crete, back runs one well 2 km to the village MATHES on the correct side one comes exactly then to the motorway with Georgioupolis, where also the regular bus stop is to Rethymnon.

RETHYMNON, the city + old part of town, the city park - many trees + to plants of the Mediterranean area , also some animals + a childrens playing ground.. Opposite the main street with the large place behind the church you will reach after few steps on the left roadside the studio of an icon painter, in the Dimakopoulou street, a Lyra builder has its workshop, down then the small street into the old town, a lot of shops, after a minaret and continue to the venezian harbour, to the left handside the fortress with an interesting museum, showing a lot of things from the Monoan Cemetery of Armeni.

MONASTERY ARKADI,where the bus stop is at the new road oppsite of Alkionis . around 10.30 h in the week in Rethymnon + approximately about 10.45 h will off be here, the travel lasts about ½ h and goes through the landscape + some villages.

REFERENCES to medical supply: in PLATANES, 3 km with the blue-white local busses along the old road there are different medical centers.

Notesthe next town: The picturesque town of Rethymno, is the capital town of the province of the same name. This province extends from the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) to the Idi Mountains through to the borders of the provinces of Chania and Heraklion. Rethymno is positioned on the north coast of Crete, 80 km west from Heraklion, and 75 km east of Chania, where the two airports of Crete are to be found, about an hour’s drive away by car. Rethymno harbour has a direct ferry connection with the mainland of Greece. The mediaeval old town of Rethymno, with its narrow streets, Venetian palaces and Turkish minarets has a distinct atmosphere. The oriental flavour of the town brings to life the ever chang ing history since ancient times. Along with the numerous seemingly unlimited sights to see and the beautiful old town, with the Venetian “Fortezza” or fortress, the scenic harbour, and the many enticing tavernas, cafes and restaurants with wonderful Cretan delicacies, Rethymno has one of the most magnificent fine sandy beaches, which stretches to the east almost as far as the eye can see. Exploring one of the many Cretan gorges in this area, is sure to reward you with the sight of numerous caves and little grottos. Those of you who delight in traditional customs, will enjoy the numerous cultural festivals and traditional days of celebration in Rethymno, where you get the opportunity to experience a slice of Cretan life. Religious days, the seasonal times of the year and many other reasons mostly form the basis for the regional and public festivities. So in the middle of July you will find for example the Cretan wine festival with its 500 year old tradition, which lasts three weeks and is attended by thousands of people. Of further interest, in the many outlying villages not far from Rethymno, traditional handicrafts are still very much alive. For example, the lovely pottery in Margarites, or the basket weaving of Mixorrouma, the traditional stone masonry in Alfa, or the village of Anogia where lengths of material are still woven on traditional weaving looms, and where traditional Cretan folk art is still being produced. There are also interesting wood carving workshops in Argyroupoli, Agios Konstantinos and Margarites.
